Saturday | Alfond Stadium | Orono, Maine

Black Bears return home looking for a response

31-26. 26-15. 20-13.

Those are the three previous meetings between Maine and Merrimack.

And all three ended with the same result.

A Black Bears win.

Saturday's matchup in Orono will be the fourth meeting between the programs in the last six seasons, with Maine holding a perfect 3-0 series record. The most recent meeting came last October, when the Black Bears left North Andover with a 20-13 victory.

Now the Warriors make the roughly three-and-a-half-hour trip north to Alfond Stadium.

Neither team enters this game feeling particularly comfortable.

Maine is coming off a brutal 55-3 loss at App State, a game in which the Black Bears were outgained 647-250 and allowed nearly nine yards per play.

Merrimack's start has been even worse.

The Warriors opened their season with a 34-7 loss to Rhode Island before falling 42-7 at Delaware last week. Through two games, Merrimack has been outscored 76-14.

That makes this a very different challenge from Boone.

Maine is no longer the clear underdog trying to survive against FBS talent.

This is a game the Black Bears should expect to win.

And after what happened last week, they need to show why.

MERRIMACK'S OFFENSE: ATHLETIC AT QUARTERBACK, LIMITED UP FRONT

The Warriors do not have one overwhelming offensive strength.

What they do have is an interesting quarterback situation.
